Buy a mattress from a vending machine? This U.K. brand says yes

BARNOLDSWICK, England – Bedding brand Silentnight has unveiled the first mattress vending machine as a fun way to introduce its Just Sleep collection of boxed mattresses and to bring attention to the importance of sleep. Set up in busy King’s Crossing station in London, the Dream Machine has captured consumers’ attention as they commute to and from work. The brightly colored machine that stands more than 6-feet tall and dispensed mattresses through a side door. The company’s new Just Sleep collection includes seven mattresses, including all foam models and hybrid designs, all of which can be delivered in 48 hours. The Dream Machine was also designed to help bring attention to the results of a study Silentnight commissioned on the impact a mattress has on quality shuteye. Of the 2,000 adults surveyed, 40% say they don’t prioritize sleep, and 18% of them have a mattress that is older than 7 to 10 years. More than 12% said the hassle of shopping for a mattress is a bother, and 12% said they are overwhelmed by the choices available in the category. “Brits know a good mattress plays a key part in getting a good night’s sleep,” said Jason McIlvenny, senior brand and customer insights manager at Silentnight. “Despite this, our study suggests they might not be prioritizing this as much as they perhaps could – with millions putting up with tired mattresses. So we launched the Dream Machine to remind time-strapped commuters of the importance of a good mattress for getting a good night’s sleep and how easy and convenient it can be – whilst giving them the chance to pick-up a comfy new mattress for free in an instant.” The machine offered up a few free mattresses for some consumers that stopped by for a look. “With one in five Brits keeping their mattress for longer than the recommended eight years, we wanted to make it easier and more convenient than ever to make sure everyone is getting the quality sleep that they deserve with our new Just Sleep collection,” McIlvenny said. “There’s so much to choose from when it comes to mattresses that it can be hard to know where to start.”
